These are the lines on the wrist, not on the palm itself. Traditionally time was computed on them at the rate of twenty-five years per line. By today’s gauge of longevity, the count must be thirty years per line, the average number of lines being three. A safer method of computation is the is the estimate that is indicated by the life, heart, and fate lines. The first line, clearly marked, not frayed, indicates good health.

Chained or frayed means hard work to achieve success or a lucrative position in life.

A badly chained and arched first line that touches the palm — chance of difficulty with the reproductive organism. This too is an old traditional saying, but a poor Mercury and life line would indicate a weakness if there were one.
