Fortune telling with cards is a fascinating pastime, which—more often than not—produces surprises that have all the semblance of predictions. How seriously a person cares to take this, depends—like the interpretation of the cards themselves—upon the mood of the individual.

Many systems have been used with card fortunes, and some have become obsolete or confusing. Therefore it is best to adhere to those that are simple and direct, or which have proven their value in the past and have stood the test of time. Such Items are given in the following pages.

The fact of primary importance is this:

Each card in the pack has acquired a traditional meaning which is subject to various modifications. The seer—or person telling the fortune—should know all these meanings, or have them ready for reference.

Next: Each card must be interpreted in terms of certain other cards with which it appears in the layout or face up deal. This helps clarify the particular meaning of a card.

For example, a card specifying the immediate receipt of something would be modified by a card pertaining to “love” to mean that the “something” would be an engagement ring. Whereas if the modifying card had to do with “Business,” we could expect money as the “Something” due to be received.

Often, too, the consultant—or person whose fortune is being told—can help in the interpretation. Do not look upon card fortunes as an effort to astound or outwit someone, nor even as a guessing game. It should be considered a sincere attempt to learn what the cards themselves may reveal. So treated, the results will often become phenomenal.

The question invariably arises: How often should the cards be consulted?

The answer is: As often as you want, provided that they are read only a few times at one sitting—for the same consultant- and the repeat deals should be intended purely to clarify or verify something that was indicated in the original interpretation.

If the same card or token appears conspicuously in a repeat deal, it becomes a very important omen. Also, some new interpretation may interlock with one that arose before. This rule applies if the same consultant has his or her fortune told over within a few days.

Ordinarily, an entirely new consultation should not be sought by an individual within a week or More-and even then, it should be interpreted in terms of immediate happenings rather than some distant date.
