1.58 RULING PLANETS OF THE YEARS
In astrology, the years have been grouped in cycles of thirty-six years each, with a ruling planet for each cycle, following the order of the days in reverse. The first year of each cycle is governed by its own planet, add every seventh year thereafter. The in-between years are ruled by other planets in this order: the Sun, Venus, Mercury, the Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, continuing in rotation.
Once the cyclic planet is listed, these are easily calculated, but for convenience they are given here from the year 1981 through 2030. It must be remembered that the astrological year begins on March 21. Thus the year 1981, first year in the cycle of the Sun, ran from March 21, 1981 through March 20, 1981. The same applies to all succeeding years.
1.57 RULING PLANET: SATURN
Though Saturn is generally regarded as unfavorable, its intellectual qualities can prove a valuable influence in most planetary combinations. Faults are usually intensified by Saturn; hence other planetary influences must be stressed to counteract them.
In Aries, Saturn with Mars gives Arians a petulant, impulsive disposition that hampers their best efforts. Efforts to think things out hampers the natural foresight of this sign and may lead to unwise speculations.
